How a Grand Strand animal shelter hopes to help others through coronavirus pandemic

As a result of an outpouring of community support, Saint Frances Animal Center will be delivering food to pet owners quarantined due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The animal center is located in Georgetown and will be taking pet supplies to dozens of families who can’t leave their house due to concerns they may contract COVID-19.

“Today, I spoke with a woman who’s elderly mom is very ill. She cannot leave her house due to potential exposure. She cried tears of relief when she found out that we would provide food for her cats,” Volunteer Coordinator Regina Paschal said.

All of the food came from donations and support from the Georgetown community. Shelter Director Niki Dawson said donations have been down due to the coronavirus, but she felt the center had a responsibility to help the community care for their comfort animals.

To keep the program going, the center said it is still taking donations of pet food. Supplies can be dropped off at 125 North Ridge St. in Georgetown.

And, like many shelters in the area, the Saint Frances Center is looking for housing for some of their sheltered animals. You can learn more about getting pet food, how to donate or how to foster a pet by visiting the center’s website or call 843-546 0780.
