Additional coronavirus cases announced in Horry County, Myrtle Beach area

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Horry County grew to 16 Monday afternoon, according to the latest numbers from health officials.

Across the state, South Carolina’s total confirmed cases have reached nearly 300 as of Monday afternoon. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released daily updates on the number of confirmed cases.

The Myrtle Beach area had 11 confirmed cases as of Sunday afternoon, but continues to see its total increase with each passing day.

Officials continue to call for members of the public to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people, wash their hands regularly and practice social distancing to keep the virus from spreading.

Georgetown County also has two cases, its first cases, as of Monday, according to DHEC.

During Monday’s press conference, S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster urged citizens to avoid gathering in groups of more than three and instructed police to enforce that regulation in public. McMaster did note that “common sense” approaches will be taken, such as not citing families of more than three for being together.
