How to help: Tidelands Health to host blood drive to fight coronavirus-related shortages

The American Red Cross needs blood donations now due to a coronavirus-related shortage. And Tidelands Health is stepping up to help.

This Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,Tidelands will be hosting a blood drive at the Tidelands Health Conference Center located at 4367 Riverwood Drive in Murrells Inlet.

The coronavirus pandemic led to thousands of canceled blood drives, dramatically dropping the number of donations in the past week.

Currently, Tideland facilities are not facing a blood shortage despite nation-wide trends, according to a release. The blood drive is to prevent a shortage.

Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. They must bring a valid identification card.

To help prevent coronavirus from spreading, blood drive workers will routinely be disinfecting surfaces and practicing social distancing. Donors will have the temperatures taken and anyone displacing signs of sickness will be sent home.

“Our community members always come through to help during challenging times,” Adam Mattox, director of laboratory services, stated in the release.
