Coronavirus

Here’s what is happening to your internet, phone bill (Spoiler: more $$ in your pocket)

The Horry Telephone Cooperative is taking new steps to relieve some of the economic stress residents feel as a result of the coronavirus.

On Friday the company suspended any service cut-offs due to non-payment and waived late fees for the duration of the crisis. A $20 credit will be applied to customers’ internet bills and a scheduled cable rate increase was postponed to a later date.

In addition, HTC offices are open by appointment-only to help keep employees safe or by using a drive-thru option at certain stores.

Customers at high risk for coronavirus are asked to come from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. as a safety precaution. If possible, HTC asks you do your business online or over the phone by calling 843-369-7243.

In a release sent to customers, HTC CEO Mike Hagg said the cooperative is dedicated to making sure students and customers are connected to help with education and public information as the situation unfolds.

“HTC has stood behind our members and neighbors through hurricanes, record flooding, ice storms and other economically challenging events,” Hagg said. “COVID-19 will be no different. The credits and rate adjustments equate to roughly $2 million a month that will be helping our members as we face this challenge together.”

Here are the HTC locations that will offer drive-through service:

  • Conway: 3480 Hwy 701 North, Conway, SC 29526
  • Little River: 2370 Highway 9E, Longs, SC 29568
  • Loris: 4350 Main Street, Loris, SC 29569
  • Murrells Inlet: 9500 Highway 17 Bypass, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
  • Socastee: 6009 Highway 707, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588
