Pawleys Island wants locals and visitors to believe there is nothing better than swinging between the trees on a hammock.

This Friday, the South Carolina beach town will be hosting a party for National Hammock Day, with activities for kids, giveaways, free food, vendors and music. This is the fourth year the annual event has been held.

“We are really excited to once again welcome both local residents and our valued tourists to celebrate our namesake day with us,” Georgetown County Chamber tourism development director Mark Stevens said in a statement. “We have some never-before-available official Hammock Coast merchandise to showcase. And by the end of the day, we will have given away four hammocks to some lucky winners!”

Here are biggest the highlights to know ahead of time:

  • Starting at 11 a.m., an official Pawleys Island rope hammock will be given away every hour as part of a raffle.
  • No purchase is required for any of the raffles and winners do not have to be present to win. Just register at the visitors center while the event is ongoing.
  • Vendors will include Kona Ice of Georgetown, Smoothie King, Koffee Kamp and Pawleys Island Bakery.
  • The Long Bay Symphony will also be at the event with its “touch and play” instruments allowing children (and adults) the chance to try out and play instruments like violins.
  • At 2 p.m., a grand prize will be handed out and includes a hammock, two Hammock Coast T-shirts, four one-day passes to Brookgreen Gardens and a certificate to Drunken Jack’s Restaurant.

The party runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Litchfield community visitor center, at 28 Wall Street in Pawleys Island. Admission is free.

“We love showcasing our community and the day set aside to highlight the hammock — the namesake of our county’s tourism moniker,” Georgetown County Chamber CEO Beth Stedman said in a statement. “Nothing says rest and relaxation like a hammock, and nothing says the perfect vacation more than the Hammock Coast.”
