Two new fast-food restaurants — a Dunkin’ and a Dairy Queen — got tentative approval to set up shop in the Windy Hill neighborhood of North Myrtle Beach.

The land the two properties will sit on is owned by Horry County and is located just outside of Grand Strand Airport, a small airport landing strip mostly used for small private aircraft. On Thursday, a county committee gave initial approval to lease 1.4 acres next the airport to a shopping center with retail and food.

The lease goes before Horry County Council for approval next, and the proposed shopping center construction must still be given a final check by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Dunkin’ and Dairy Queen are the only two specific businesses proposed for the shopping center right now. However, Horry County’s assistant director of airports Judi Olmstead said there could also be some retail added later on.
