The Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association is working on its first parade of homes in five years, a sign that the area’s independent home builders are feeling the benefits of the Grand Strand’s current surge in home sales.

The parade will feature 25 to 30 homes throughout Horry and Georgetown counties, said Rose Anne O’Reilly, the association’s executive vice president, and is being planned for the two weekends following the association’s fall home show.

O’Reilly said builders are reluctant to commit homes to the show too early, but added that a complete line-up of the homes, floor plans, elevations, prices and maps will be printed in a circular that will be distributed in The Sun News.

The homes will be judged by panels of home builders, decorators, architects and others from outside the Grand Strand. Certificates awarded to the winners could be available in the homes on the days of the parade.

There is no charge to tour the homes.

“We just want to get people in houses,” O’Reilly said. “It’s not about money. It’s about the industry.”
