The automotive-themed sports bar, Quaker Steak and Lube, will not open as part of a complex of new restaurants under development in Garden City Beach off U.S. 17 Business, a spokeswoman for the company said Monday.

“Those were earlier plans from last year that did not materialize,” said Amy Morton of Collier Restaurant Group, which operates Quaker Steak and Lube and numerous other restaurants.

“We just didn’t work it out, the plans didn’t come together,” Morton said.

The initial plans were to tear down the building that housed Murphy’s Law South and construct a Quaker Steak and Lube to open by this summer, but Morton said the new plans call for the construction of a Chicago Pizza and Taproom, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

The restaurant offers wings and salads in addition to pizza, as well as craft beer.

A vacant building next door to Murphy’s Law South was gutted by Collier Restaurant Group and a Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin will open there in June.

Also in the works for 2017, the company will open a barbecue restaurant on the property behind the two restaurants.

It won’t be a Corky’s Ribs and BBQ restaurant, which are also operated by the same company, “but it will be a barbecue concept,” Morton said.

“We’re working on the details of that right now for 2017,” Morton said.
