Horry County unemployment figures rose in December

The unemployment rate rose in Horry County from 6.5 percent in November to 7.1 percent in December, according to numbers released Tuesday by the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce.

In Georgetown County, the rate also rose from 7.7 percent in November to 7.8 percent in December.

The numbers are lower than in December 2014, when Horry County saw an 8.3 percent jobless rate while Georgetown had an unemployment rate of 8.6 percent.

Statewide, the December unemployment rate remained unchanged from November at 5.5 percent.
