MOD Pizza will open three locations in the Myrtle Beach area in 2016 including one restaurant at a new development under construction at the U.S. 17 Bypass and S.C. 544 intersection.

That restaurant in south Myrtle Beach is expected to open in October, while another new location at 1400 U.S. 17 Business in North Myrtle Beach will open in April, and a Carolina Forest location on U.S. 501 and West Perry Road will open in July, said MOD Pizza spokeswoman Charlotte Wayte.

The growing chain of artisan-style pizzas allows customers to build their own pie for a dine-in experience and offers an expansive choice of toppings for 11-inch thin crust pizzas.

“You can choose a classic pizza off the menu or totally build your own and the price is always the same, regardless of how many toppings,” Wayte said.

MOD Pizza owns nearly 100 restaurants in the west and northern U.S., and started opening stores in the south, beginning with North Carolina, in 2014. The first MOD Pizza in South Carolina will open in Charleston in January and is one of eight restaurants opening statewide.

The original MOD Pizza opened in Seattle in 2008 by the same founders of the Seattle Coffee Co., which was later sold to Starbucks.

The new commercial site under construction at the U.S. 17 Bypass and S.C. 544 interchange is being developed by Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc.
