North Myrtle Beach has a new neighborhood restaurant with Tidewater Grill opening about two weeks ago near the swing bridge.

The restaurant – described as “Lowcountry casual” – features fresh, local food and is the first restaurant for owner Sallie Sutherland and her husband Joe along the Grand Strand.

“[Sallie Sutherland] saw a need for a smaller, neighborhood eating place that’s focused on food and not as much drinking,” Joe Sutherland said. “It’s a bistro type of restaurant. We offer beer and wine and really good food. Good prices and large portions.”

The menu features seafood dishes, as well as pasta, steak and chicken options, Joe Sutherland said.

Joe Sutherland said the Lowcountry pasta, shrimp and grits and lobster roll are among the restaurant’s signature dishes.

Sallie Sutherland has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 20 years, formerly managing Key West Grill at Broadway at the Beach, Joey Doggs in Surfside Beach and Kansas City Steakhouse in Myrtle Beach.

Between managing restaurants along the Grand Strand, Sallie Sutherland moved to Dillon where she owned and operated Cafe on Main, selling the business in 2010.

Joe Sutherland said his wife took a few years off from the restaurant business to focus on raising their six children before deciding it was time to “get back to work.”

Tidewater Grill is at 2100 Old Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach in the Tidewater Business Center. Tidewater Grill is open Tuesday through Saturday.
