Third Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market planned for Myrtle Beach
A third Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market could be coming to Myrtle Beach.
The city’s Community Appearance Board on Thursday will review plans for a 46,564 square-foot store in the Farrow Commons Shopping Center off U.S. 17 Bypass near the back gate intersection.
Plans for two markets on Kings Highway have already been approved, said city spokesman Mark Kruea. Those stores will be located at 3915 N. Kings Highway and at 1701 S. Kings Highway.
Neighborhood markets are smaller than the company’s traditional big box stores and are designed for convenience. The markets include a pharmacy, deli items, fresh produce and a bakery. The stores also carry health and beauty products as well as household supplies.
The first Wal-Mart market on the Grand Strand opened last year off U.S. 17 Business across from Ocean Lakes Family Campground. Another one is being built on the former SBB Four Corners site off U.S. 17 Bypass at Tournament Boulevard across from Inlet Square Mall.
Next week, the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board will decide whether to approve the third city market. Along with the store, the shopping center would also include a 9,800 square-foot retail building and a 10,520 square-foot retail building as well as road improvements and landscaping. Plans for what the center’s other facilities will hold have not been submitted.
The board will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room of the City Services Building.
