Lucid's $50,000 Tesla Model Y Rival Is Starting To Take Shape

Patent Images Pull the Covers Off Lucid's Upcoming SUV

Lucid's next EV is a smaller, more wallet-friendly SUV called the Cosmos. This electric newcomer will slot in beneath the Air sedan and Gravity SUV, both in size and price, with Lucid aiming for a starting tag around $50,000.

We've already seen some grainy spy shots, but these new patent drawings leave little to the imagination. Filed with the EUIPO under Atieva Inc. (that's Lucid's parent company), the images were first spotted by AutoWeek and dropped on June 15, 2026. They show off the Cosmos from just about every angle, inside and out.

Curious what the finished product might look like? We fed those patent sketches into an AI image generator, and the results point to a sleek crossover that borrows plenty from Lucid's current design playbook – just shrunk down to go head-to-head with the Tesla Model Y.

A Familiar Lucid Look, With Hints of Something Sportier

The patent images reveal a crossover that's unmistakably Lucid. Up front, you get that signature slim light bar stretching across the nose, and the hood's bold sculpting gives the Cosmos a sharper, more aggressive look than its bigger sibling, the Lucid Gravity.

From the side, the Cosmos sports a coupe-style roofline, flush door handles, and smooth, flowing lines that scream aerodynamic efficiency. Out back, there's a full-width taillight and a tidy tailgate, both in line with Lucid's latest design trends.

Interestingly, the filings also show off a second set of front and rear bumpers, complete with bigger air intakes, sharper details, and sporty trim. Lucid's keeping quiet about what these are for, but we wouldn't be surprised if a hotter, performance-focused version is in the works.

The patents also gave a sneak peek inside; the drawings reveal a center console, dashboard, and even the chunky side mirror. There's a wide display stretching across the dashboard, dual cupholders, a floating console, and a clean, minimalist vibe that matches Lucid's usual interior style.

What We Know About the Lucid Cosmos So Far

The Cosmos is set to debut Lucid's new Midsize platform, a fresh EV architecture aimed at making the brand's efficiency magic available to more people. Lucid says this platform will support three new models: the Cosmos SUV, the already-announced Earth SUV, and a mystery third vehicle still under wraps.

Under the skin, the Cosmos should get Lucid's new Atlas drive units – smaller, lighter, and cheaper to build. Lucid claims this setup will reduce complexity and costs and allow them to use smaller battery packs without sacrificing range.

Recent spy shots hint that the Cosmos is about the same size as a Tesla Model Y, but it looks a bit lower and wider. Expect both single- and dual-motor versions, with Lucid promising the same obsession with efficiency, roomy interiors, and sharp driving dynamics that made the Air and Gravity stand out.

Lucid's keeping the official launch date under wraps for now, but all signs point to a 2027 debut – right as the company keeps cranking out more Gravity SUVs.
