Renovations, sales and more. These 12 Myrtle Beach hotels are making changes.

A dozen hotels in Myrtle Beach are remaking themselves with big renovations, changes in ownership and more.

The Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau released a list of hotel improvements that guests can now enjoy, sharing improvements to many well-known area lodgings. Some of them have been serving Grand Strand guests for decades, and now have a more modern feel.

Myrtle Beach hotels changing ownership and upgrading image

One of the hotels, Aventura on the Ocean, is on the market after a series of renovations that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to past reporting by The Sun News.

The 31,000 square foot boutique oceanfront property is located at 2711 South Ocean Boulevard, and went on the market in December 2024, according to Zillow. All the hotel’s guest rooms have been completely renovated, and it is listed for just under $4.8 million.

The Aventura isn’t the only local hotel changing hands. The Holiday Inn Resort Oceanfront at Surfside Beach, located at 1601 North Ocean Boulevard, is now under the ownership of Innsfree Hotels, according to the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Under its new ownership, the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations.

The Shelby Hotel, located at 1802 North Ocean Boulevard recently reopened as South Carolina’s first Voco property under InterContinental Hotels Group, according to the bureau. Horry County land records show the property was sold in 2024 for $10 to HCM Shelby LLC by MBSC Property LLC, which originally bought the property for $15 million in 2022. The retro-inspired lodging has plans for expansion in the near future.

Large renovations bring new looks to Myrtle Beach hotels

Some hotels in the area have thrown large sums of money and time into in-depth renovations aimed at modernizing and re-vamping their amenities.

The Ocean Reef Resort, located at 7100 North Ocean Boulevard, completed a $15 million renovation in 2025, which reworked and modernized all the guest rooms, the lobby, the fitness center and meeting spaces.

The Landmark Resort at 1501 South Ocean Boulevard recently unveiled a “multimilion-dollar” upgrade, according to the bureau. The exact cost of the renovation was not disclosed, but changes include upgrades to guest amenities, pool and recreation areas, and its seasonal H2OASIS water park.

The Holiday Inn Club Vacations South Beach Resort at 3020 Owners Club Court opened in 2024, and is currently undergoing phase two of its development.

The Ellie Beach Resort Myrtle Beach, Tapestry by Hilton at 3200 South Ocean Boulevard also revealed new renovations and upgrades. The hotel adjoins a DoubleTree Resort by Hilton, which is also newly renovated, according to the bureau.

The Crown Reef Beach Resort and Waterpark at 2913 South Ocean Boulevard recently introduced expansions to its arcade. It is now the largest oceanfront resort arcade in Myrtle Beach, according to the bureau.

The Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort at 2311 South Ocean Boulevard recently wrapped up a $23 million series of renovations, according to the bureau. The guest rooms, lobby, hallways, front desk, laundry rooms and fitness facilities have all been upgraded.

The Breakers Myrtle Beach Resort at 2104 North Ocean Boulevard has renovated its guest rooms, corridors and common spaces in its South Tower.

The Captain’s Quarters Resort at 901 South Ocean Boulevard has seen renovations inside and out. The hotel is wrapping up modernizing its exterior, rooms, pool and recreation areas. It is also adding an arcade, bowling area, and restaurant and bar.

The Caribbean Resort and Villas at 3000 North Ocean Boulevard recently completed a $19 million renovation. The hotel renovated guest rooms and public spaces in its Dominican and Cayman buildings, and added a grab-and-go market.
