North Myrtle Beach crab restaurant closing to move south. Here’s where

A North Myrtle Beach crab restaurant and bar will close at the end of October — but it has plans to reopen soon after in a new spot.

The Baltimore-style crab house and deli restaurant, 45th Ave Crab House & Bar, announced on Facebook Saturday that its last day operating at its 4515 Highway 17 location will be Oct. 30. The restaurant will be re-opening on the downtown Myrtle Beach strip on 7th Avenue, according to the announcement.

The owner of the restaurant, Ashley Bowen, said that a new lease has been signed, and the restaurant will be moving to 206 7th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. The restaurant has operated at its current location for five and a half years, Bowen said.

Bowen and her husband, as well as the restaurant’s staff, hail from Maryland, where blue crab is almost always on the menu. Bowen said the couple wanted to bring their Maryland expertise to the Grand Strand, where so many other Marylanders relocate and visit each year. The restaurant prides itself on its authentic Maryland steamed blue crab, crab cakes and steamed shrimp, Bowen said.

By moving operations to Myrtle Beach, Bowen and her team are not only hoping to capitalize on the foot traffic in the downtown Myrtle Beach area, but also find a “halfway point” for their customers who travel from near and far.

“A lot of our customers are actually traveling from Murrells Inlet and Surfside,” Bowen said. Some, she added, come from as far away as Charleston to get a taste of Maryland.

The restaurant also announced that it would be serving up some “tasty reminders” of the move in the form of deals for customers. Every pound of shrimp will be $7 off, because the restaurant is moving to 7th Avenue North, and every dozen of crabs will be $12 off, because they are moving 12 miles south, the announcement said.
