New smashburger restaurant replacing former Eggs Up Grill in North Myrtle Beach

A new restaurant offering mix-and-match burgers and fries is set to open in North Myrtle Beach by the end of the month.

The owners of Jem Social are working to open Burger Social at the former Eggs Up Grill in the Food Lion shopping center near Barefoot Landing. The mid-century modern themed restaurant will serve smashburgers, 14 different cuts of fries and cocktails.

“We wanted it to be more than just a diner. We wanted people to be able to enjoy a burger and the atmosphere, which is a little more inviting, where people would kind of hang out and relax,” said owner Jason Trinh. He opened Jem Social with his wife, Jeannie, in 2022.

The Burger Social menu will be a-la-carte with the intent that customers are able to choose exactly which kind of burger and fry they want, Trinh said. The burgers and fries will be customizable, with nine kinds of buns to choose from and 14 cuts of fries, including waffle fries, thick cut fries and sweet potato fries and the option to add various seasonings or sauces.

Trinh said he and his wife decided to open a burger joint because the Make it a Double Burger at Jem Social is one of their most popular items. They also wanted to create a more approachable space. He hopes people will enjoy the burgers and then stay to continue chatting with friends or family.

A single burger will start at $6 and go up in price, with a more deluxe burger costing about $13. Fries will start at $4.50 and increase in price depending on what a customer adds on.

Burger Social will have a full bar available, but it will not have as many signature cocktails as Jem Social. Trinh said he hopes to open Burger Social by the end of July.

“(There will be) great burgers, endless combination of fries. Our model is modernizing the burger. We’re putting sexy back in the burger,” Trinh said.
