There’s a new Golden Egg in town. A restaurant with the same name isn’t too happy about it
A restaurant that looks like it will be opening up soon in the Myrtle Beach area has a very similar name to a beloved pre-exisiting spot.
The Golden Egg Pancake House opened in 1991 in Surfside Beach, SC and ranks as one of the areas best breakfast spots.
A few miles away, also along Highway 17, it appears that the new restaurant will also be called the Golden Egg, according to a sign out front.
Owners insist in a statement on Facebook that there’s no correlation between the original spot and the new one.
“We have no intention of opening another restaurant in the area or having to do so,” the post said. “We’ve invested a substantial amount of time and effort into building our business, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
Evan, the owner of the Golden Egg Pancake House, said he’s sent the new business a cease-and-desist letter.
“I have the name trademarked and they are violating a US trademark but opening with the same name,” Evans wrote, in an email. “We have been in business since 1991 and have the us trademark since 2018.”
By Monday afternoon the post had received over 500 reactions and 210 comments.
