Artisan gift and country shop in Little River, SC, closes permanently. What happened?

A beloved artisan gift shop in Little River closed recently after many years in business.

Salt and Soul, formerly The Country Rooster, shut down at the end of October, said vendor Anna Bowers, who owns We Shell Overcome.

The Country Rooster, located at 1530 U.S. 17, had been around since around 2016, according to Google Earth images. Before that, it was a gift shop called Toby’s World Gifts.

About two years ago, Tracie Peal Clark bought the Country Rooster and brought in several art vendors. Clark changed the name to Salt and Soul several months ago, Bowers said.

Salt and Soul had a rough business year, leading to its closure, Bowers said.

The store sold jewelry, clothing, artisan foods and antiques, among many other items. It also hosted several art classes.

The Sun News was unable to contact Clark. The phone number and email for the business were disconnected.
