Waccamaw Outfitters to shutdown after a decade. Here’s what we know about it

After a decade in business, Waccamaw Outfitters, located at the Conway City Marina, is shutting their doors.

According to a social media announcement posted on Oct. 22, owner Matthew Varnadore said he has decided to pursue his yacht broker career full time.

“Over the last 10 years we have met so many great people and made a lot of new friends. We would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support,” the post said. “We would like to thank the City of Conway for all they have done for us and for giving us this opportunity. The City of Conway will be looking for a new business to come into the marina store and take over soon.”

Spokesperson for the City of Conway, June Wood, said the lease between the city and Waccamaw Outfitters for the Marine store will terminate at the end of the calendar year.

According to the store, gift cards will be accepted until Dec. 31, 2024, or until they have sold out of merchandise.

Starting this week, owners said they will begin selling multiple fixtures from the store, as well as their pontoon tour boat.

In addition to selling clothes and gear, Waccamaw Outfitters also offered pontoon tours, fishing charters and kayak rentals, their website said.

“The City will seek another business venture to lease the facility through a Request for Proposals,” Wood said. “The RFP is expected to be posted in the coming week.”

RFPs can be found on the City of Conway’s website.
