Locally-owned North Myrtle Beach shoe store looking for new owners, retirement sale starts

The Shoe Center in North Myrtle Beach announced it is up for sale so the owners can retire, according to a Facebook post.

The award-winning shoe store, at 710 Highway 17 South, has been around since 1976, making 2024 its 46th year in business. The store sells a variety of shoes designed for comfort and fashion. It also carries a plethora of dance shoes.

The Sun News reached out to the Shoe Center for comment and did not hear back by time of publication.

Owner Mike Parnell has worked in the shoe industry for decades and kept an old-fashioned approach to shoe selling he describes on his website as “sales with service.” His wife Ginger has worked with him. Over the years, the store held customer appreciation concerts where local bands would play in the parking lot of the North Strand Plaza Shopping Center.

A retirement sale began March 1, according to a post on the store’s Facebook page. The business did not say when Mike and Ginger’s last day would be. If you are interested in buying the business, you can contact Darlene Byer at darlene.byer@tworld.com.
