This new Grand Strand outdoor apparel store expands a family’s business

The Rogers family of Mullins has expanded its business offerings on the Grand Strand with the opening Monday of the High Tide Outpost off S.C. 9 in Little River.

High Tide is largely an apparel store that also sells outdoor products, beach accessories and home decor items.

“We had this location and were trying to figure out something to do with it and decided one of these stores would be good for the area, and good for locals and beach-goers and vacationers,” said Logan Rogers, chief operating officer of High Tide’s parent company, Smith-Rogers Oil Co. Inc.

Rogers’ father, Bill Rogers, is the business patriarch and CEO. Smith-Rogers Oil Co also includes 15 Tiger Mart gas stations and convenience stores in South Carolina and four Jimmy John’s sub shops on the Grand Strand. Bill Rogers has operated convenience stores for decades and the company became a Jimmy John’s franchisee in 2019.

The outpost is together in a business complex with a Tiger Mart, Jimmy John’s, Bojangles and fireworks store. The Tiger Mart opened in 2009.

“We’re very excited to be open,” Logan Rogers said. “We think it’s a good location with vacationers coming in on Highway 9. Hopefully they stop and can get some gas and get a sandwich and stop at the store and get something for the beach. And hopefully we have a lot of stuff the locals will enjoy, too. That’s why we kind of beefed up the home decor section.”

The name High Tide was chosen because the family wanted a coastal theme and the logo features the sun containing a wave and sea birds.

The 7,500-square-foot store carries quality brands and original lines of southern outdoor and beachwear products.

“We’re looking to carry more high-end vendors,” Logan Rogers said. “Not high-end in the sense that everything is hundreds and hundreds of dollars or anything, but we’re not looking to carry just knock-offs and cheap stuff.”

The store carries the clothing brands Southern Tide, Simply Southern, Huk and Southern Casanova; Rainbow and Olukai sandals and slip-on shoes; and Scout carry bags.

There are also kayaks, inflatable paddle boards and beach accessories including beach chairs, towels, boogie boards, skimboards, coolers, shovels, buckets, and waterproof speakers and phone cases, as well as coastal-themed home decor items and knickknacks.
