This retail store has dropped anchor at Barefoot Landing with products from recycled sails
A new store in Barefoot Landing is selling products that were unfurled at sea in their previous incarnation.
Sea Bags is a Maine-based designer and manufacturer of durable and stylish bags, totes and accessories in nautical styles and themes that are all made from recycled sails.
The Barefoot Landing retail store opened on Friday and is the company’s first location in South Carolina. Part of its building sits over the property’s lake.
“Myrtle Beach’s scenic location, sandy beaches and beachfront boardwalk all align with the Sea Bags story and mission. We are excited to see the brand expand its Southern, coastal footprint in this beautiful spot and into a building that hangs over the water,” said Sea Bags CEO Don Oakes in a release.
The company was incorporated in 2006 in Portland, Maine and all Sea Bags products are made in the U.S.
The company says it has helped keep more than 700 tons of old sails and sail materials out of landfills through its upcycling efforts and Sail Trade Program, through which people exchange their old sails for a custom product. The company plans to expand that program once it opens on the West Coast.
The Barefoot store is the newest of 25 retail locations along the East Coast, and this summer Sea Bags will open eight new locations.
The company said the Barefoot store is putting all necessary health protocols and procedures in place that align with local and state regulations.
