Broadway at the Beach’s Hard Rock Cafe, in Myrtle Beach, lays off 82 amid coronavirus
A restaurant at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach has laid off 82 employees as businesses continue to struggle with reduced operations due to coronavirus.
Hard Rock Cafe, which has been open in Myrtle Beach since 1995 according to its website, announced the furloughs as of April 13, according to a notice sent to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce.
The restaurant is temporarily closed to protect the health and safety of its employees and guests, according to the business’ answering machine. No one from the restaurant immediately returned a request for comment.
The restaurant’s letter to DEW states that it anticipates the closure and furloughs will be temporary, and it hopes to re-engage as many employees as possible once business levels return to normal “after the pandemic ends.”
The breakdown of impacted employees included 27 servers, 17 line cooks, six prep cooks, five hosts and four bartenders, according to the letter.
Restaurants in South Carolina have been limited to take-out and delivery orders for several weeks by an executive order meant to prevent the spread of COVID-19, though Gov. Henry McMaster did allow outdoor dining to resume this week.
