Tilted Kilt will open new Myrtle Beach location in spring

Tilted Kilt isn’t sashaying out of Myrtle Beach for good.

Although the Broadway at the Beach pub will close Sept. 30, a corporate official said Wednesday that the chain plans to open another location on the Grand Strand in the spring.

“We love Myrtle Beach and can’t wait to get things back up and running,” said Mark Hanby, Tilted Kilt’s vice president of development.

Hanby said the company is searching for a new site.

On Saturday, staff at the Celtic-themed bar and restaurant learned the current location would be shutting down.

Beth Sansone, the restaurant’s general manager, told The Sun News that franchisee Paul Kim had been bought out by Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc., which owns Broadway at the Beach.

Sansone said B&C now owns the rights to Tilted Kilt in Horry County and most of the restaurant’s inventory. B&C declined to comment Tuesday and did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday.

The 8,500-square-foot restaurant opened in the former Tony Roma’s building in 2011. It was the Tempe, Ariz.-chain’s first pub in South Carolina.

The original Tilted Kilt opened at the Rio hotel in Las Vegas in 2003.

The pub, whose slogan is “A cold beer never looked so good,” is known for its waitresses, who are called “kilt girls” and wear short plaid skirts, matching bras and white tops tied above their abs.
