Burroughs & Chapin to be recognized for over 100 years in business
Burroughs & Chapin, a real estate development and management company with extensive holdings in the Myrtle Beach area and beyond, will be recognized as a “centennial business” by South Carolina on Wednesday.
S.C. Secretary of State Mark Hammond will recognize the company in an event at the company’s corporate headquarters to celebrate its over 100 years in business. Other companies across the state are also being recognized.
“There’s not too many of them, it’s only about 20 or 30, but [Hammond is] trying to recognize them to basically say thank you for their contributions to this state,” Shannon Wiley, general counsel for the secretary of state’s office, said.
Burroughs & Chapin owns several high-profile developments along the Grand Strand, including Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, Grande Dunes and several smaller shopping centers in the area. It is also the owner of the former Pavilion amusement park site.
The company, which was previously called “Myrtle Beach Farms,” once owned much of the land along the Grand Strand, donating the land that later became Myrtle Beach State Park.
