Plane crash at North Myrtle Beach airport results in minor injury, fire dept says
An incident occurred at Grand Strand Airport on Thursday, resulting in one person having minor injuries, according to a social media post by North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Cirrus SR22 crashed at the North Myrtle Beach airport around 11:45 a.m. local time on Thursday, March 6.
Only the pilot was on board the aircraft at the time of the crash, the FAA wrote in an email to The Sun News. They will be investigating the crash.
“Crews are currently on scene of an aircraft related incident on the Grand Strand Airport property,” the post said. “Incident is under control with no additional hazards.”
The airport is located in North Myrtle Beach.
The plane is registered to SOAR47 LLC in Charlotte, North Carolina, FAA records show. The aircraft was properly registered at the time of the crash.
According to North Carolina Secretary of State records, the LLC was first formed in 2021.
Assistant director for airports in Myrtle Beach, Ryan Betcher said via email that although the aircraft sustained fairly significant damage, there were no serious injuries.
“In addition to emergency crews, airport officials respond to all on-airport aircraft incidents to assist with FAA/NTSB coordination, oversee the removal of the aircraft and conduct a detailed inspection of all impacted areas prior to reopening the runway,” he wrote.
The FAA said local authorities will be responsible for releasing the pilot’s name and current medical condition after the crash.
