Coroner identifies person killed in boating accident on Black River in Georgetown County

The Georgetown County Coroner released the name of the person killed in a Saturday boating accident on the Black River in Georgetown County, near Brown’s Ferry Landing.

Coroner Chase Ridgeway identified the missing boater as Ron Spivey, 35, of Andrews. The body was recovered Monday morning, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Spivey had been missing since just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, when he went overboard near Brown’s Ferry boat landing. The boat’s driver, Kevon Jharique Dorsey, 21, of Andrews, was charged with boating under the influence.

Five people were on the craft when Dorsey swerved to avoid a dock, according to Greg Lucas, SCDNR public information officer.

The Georgetown County Fire and EMS, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, a dive team with Horry County Fire Rescue and Midway Fire Rescue responded Saturday night. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources dive teams and officers were involved as well.
