Large airline introducing direct flights between Myrtle Beach and southern city
Grand Strand residents can now fly direct to the largest city in Texas.
Southwest Airlines is starting nonstop service between Myrtle Beach International Airport and William P. Hobby Airport in Houston.
The new flights mark the 11th airport where Southwest offers service from Myrtle Beach. Starting June 6, every Saturday the airline will offer one direct flight each way. Currently, the route is only scheduled through July.
“We’re entering our peak summer schedule and have added many routes at varying frequencies across our network designed to connect Customers to the places they want to travel for their summer vacations,” spokesperson Chris Perry said in an email. “Myrtle Beach is a fantastic destination and Houston is one of our largest operations with connectivity to much of our network, allowing us to bring many Customers from afar into Myrtle Beach.”
The Myrtle Beach to Houston flights will last 2 hours and 40 minutes, departing at 3 p.m. EDT and landing at 4:40 p.m. CDT. The duration is similar on flights from Houston to Myrtle Beach, which will last 2 hours and 35 minutes and depart at 12:15 p.m. CDT to land at 3:50 EDT.
As of Monday morning, fares for flights both directions appear to start at $484 this Saturday and decrease every additional week, with fares starting $239 on June 27. Bookings and additional information about specific flights can be found at southwest.com.
