Living Here | All about Socastee

Established | Unincorporated, it is said the community came into being around the late 1870s-1880s. The origin of the word “Socastee” is Native American. The community of Socastee is considered a rare, in-tact post Civil War development. The Socastee historic district is comprised of a metal swing bridge which crosses the Intracoastal Waterway, two houses, one store and a pecan grove. The swing bridge was completed in 1935 marked the completion of the Intracoastal Waterway in South Carolina. It is 217 feet in length and approximately 24 feet wide.
