Living Here | All about Little River
Established | Unincorporated, this area of Horry County can trace its history to 1734.
Origin of name | Situated on the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway, Indian tribes called this place “Mineola” which meant “Little River” and that became it’s name. For a time, Little River was called “Yankee Town” because a few from New England came to live in the first village of Horry County.
Major events | Little River is best known for its Blue Crab Festival – recently re-named the “world famous Blue Crab Festival” – and its annual Fall Shrimpfest.
What’s new | SunCruz Casinos, which once operated out of Little River, shut its doors in 2014 and it looked like it was to be bought out by Big M Gaming in the last half of 2014.
