Living Here Guide

Living Here | All about Carolina Forest

Established | Carolina Forest is an unincorporated, steady development that began in the mid-1990s.

Origin of name | Carolina Forest was part of a larger tract of land in eastern Horry County called the Buist Tract. International Paper purchased the land (some 30,000 acres) from Burroughs & Chapin in 1937.

What’s new | The area continues to be a flourishing community in Horry County. The unique, master-planned, unincorporated area in Horry County offers quality schools, neighborhoods and family-friendly businesses working together to mark the area as one of the most desirable places to live.

Steady growth (by more than 500 percent since it began) has led to the construction of additional turn lanes on Carolina Forest Boulevard, the main arterial going through Carolina Forest accessible from U.S. 501 that connects to River Oaks Boulevard. Construction is slated to begin in July 2014 and is expected to take four months to complete.

In addition to major shopping outlets (like Kroger, Lowes Foods) Carolina Forest offers both restaurants and taverns as well as recreational outlets, like a new library and recreation center.
