Living Here | All about Bucksport
Established | Dates back to 1820s. Bucksports is an unincorporated community in Horry County.
Origin of name | Named after Horry County’s first Henry Buck, a lumber entrepreneur and shipbuilder from Bucksport, Maine, who also established nearby Bucksville and played a large role in the county’s history.
Major events | The annual Christmas parade over the Thanksgiving holidays brings back former residents who grew up in Bucksport but have since moved elsewhere, making the parade a kind of community reunion.
What’s new | The James R. Frazier Community Center has been a bright addition to the community. The revitalization of the Bucksport Marina is also something new for the Bucksport community. Bucksport is set back from U.S. 701 between Conway and Georgetown. It is quiet and neighborly.
