Living Here | All about Litchfield

Established | Settled by rice planters in the early 1700s, modern development into the subdivisions of Litchfield Country Club, Litchfield Beach and North Litchfield Beach began in the 1960s.

Origin of name | Litchfield Plantation, a former rice plantation, was in the center of the community on the riverside. The plantation is said to have taken its name from Litchfield in England.

What’s new | The county has completed a number of parks and recreation projects, including a tournament-class soccer and tennis complex at nearby Stables Park. Also, the Waccamaw Neck Recreational Center, which includes a gymnasium, fitness center and programming for all ages, was completed in the Parkersville area of Pawleys Island, near Litchfield Beach.

Best-kept secret | The sandy beaches that stretch along Litchfield are perfect for family getaways and romantic rendezvous.

Government | Litchfield is an unincorporated community governed by Georgetown County.

Property tax rate | Residents pay taxes to Georgetown County.
