Living Here | All about Andrews

Established | In 1909 by the merger of the villages of Harper’s and Rosemary.

Origin of name | Walter H. Andrews, an Atlantic Coast Lumber Co. and Georgetown & Western railroad executive, helped found the town and later served as mayor.

What’s new | The new business Agru America, a thermoplastic technology company that produces a wide range of pipes and fittings for the construction, chemical and civil/environmental industry, announced it is aleady expanding production. Also with a location in Georgetown, the town expects the company to create more than 100 jobs in Andrews and provide a boost to this town’s economy. Also during the year, Davis Aircraft, a maker of parts such as seat belts, announced it will open in the old Oneita Knitting factory.

Best-kept secret | Andrews is a small, quaint town nestled closely on the Black River, perfect for a weekend of fishing, canoeing or tent-pitching. The forestry surrounding the town is lush with white-tail deer, turkeys, wild boars and waterfowl, all perfect for hunting in season.

Property tax rate | Town millage is 130.5. Combined millage for Andrews residents is 296. Andrews residents pay taxes to the town of Andrews and Georgetown County.
