North Myrtle Beach Mexican restaurant closes to pursue new project. What we know
A popular Mexican restaurant in North Myrtle Beach is closing down and its owners may be looking to pursue a new project.
Roca Roja Cantina, located at 806 Sea Mountain Highway, announced via a Facebook post on Friday night that the restaurant has closed after more than four years of service. However, the restaurant hinted in the post at a new “ambitious project” that is in the works now that the restaurant has ceased operations.
Owners of Roca Roja Cantina did not immediately respond on Sunday to an emailed request for comment, and the restaurant’s number is now out of service.
It is unclear what the new project will focus on, but the Facebook post states that more details will be shared soon.
Roca Roja Cantina, which translates to Red Rock Canteen in English, was opened by Terry Walden, a self-proclaimed foodie with a love for Mexican cuisine, The Sun News previously reported.
The eatery opened in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach in 2021, and has prided itself on serving authentic Mexican meals with views of the marsh and Cherry Grove Inlet. Boasting two stories, expansive patio space and more than 10 brands of tequila, the restaurant and bar accumulated more than 1,500 reviews on Google, averaging out to a 4.3 out of five star rating.
The restaurant offered both upscale and more casual dining across its two floors, and became known for its specialty drinks and freshly prepared foods, including tortillas and bread.
Since announcing the closure online, the restaurant has received over 80 comments from diners lamenting the closure and expressing that the venue and food will be missed.
