Moldy food, expired chicken soup among violations found at Myrtle Beach area restaurants
Several restaurants received “B” grades in Myrtle Beach area restaurant inspections. Violations included moldy food and expired chicken soup.
The following restaurants had unannounced follow-up inspections this week June 12 - June 16, 2023.
The following restaurants had unannounced routine inspections in the previous week June 5 - June 9.
- Between The Antlers located at 100 Wood St., Georgetown, had a routine inspection on June 7 and scored 70 percent “C” grade. A follow-up inspection was done on June 13 and scored 100 percent “A” grade.
- Daddios located at 4480 Mineola Ave., Little River, had a routine inspection on June 6 and scored 85 percent “B” grade. A follow-up inspection has not been done at the time of this report.
- Golden China Restaurant located at 1867 S.C. 544 Unit-A, Conway, had a routine inspection on June 5 and scored 83 percent “B” grade. A follow-up inspection was done on June 16 and scored 100 percent “A” grade.
- Island Bar & Grill located at 10744 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island, had a routine inspection on June 5 and scored 74 percent “C” grade. A follow-up inspection was done on June 14 and scored 89 percent “A” grade.
The following restaurants had unannounced routine inspections this week June 12 - June 16, 2023.
- Kings Sushi located at 112 U.S. 17 N., Surfside Beach, had a routine inspection on June 13 and scored 78 percent “B” grade. The following violations were found by inspectors according to the SC Food Grade Report. The Retail Food Establishment Report listed the following: “Observed moldy food in the walk-in cooler. A scraper stored in the hand sink at the sushi area. Observed a plate with residual raw shrimp stored on top of ready-to-eat vegetables. Observed uncovered cut cabbage stored below rusting/moldy shelving. Crab mixture cooling in a deep covered container in the walk-in cooler. The product did not meet proper cooling rate. Working containers of food that are not in their original containers and not labeled with the common name. Observed in-use scoop without a handle. Food stored in contact with non-food grade grocery plastic.” A follow-up inspection is scheduled within the next 10 days.
- Klockers Tavern located at 4807 U.S. 17 Bypass S., Myrtle Beach, had a routine inspection on June 14 and scored 83 percent “B” grade. The following violations were found by inspectors according to the SC Food Grade Report. The Retail Food Establishment Report listed the following: “Hand sink observed with Chemical bottles in the sink, hand sink not being cleaned. Soap not provided at bar hand sink. Mildew buildup inside ice machine. Chicken soup has exceeded 7 days. Liquor bottles stored in edible ice at bar. Knife stored in cracks of equipment. Inside of reach in freezer has significant residue buildup.” A follow-up inspection is scheduled within the next 10 days.
- Soco Wood Fired Pizza located at 107 Screven St., Georgetown, had a routine inspection on June 13 and scored 86 percent “B” grade. The following violations were found by inspectors according to the SC Food Grade Report. The Retail Food Establishment Report listed the following: “Hand sink with debris in basin , not clean. Not adequate refrigeration available for cold holding. Bulk flour container not labeled with common name. Bottles of sauces, oils not labeled with common name. Back door open to outside with no screen or fly fan. Wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer bucket. Small make top cooler on cook line ambient temperature 56 degrees. Salad make top cooler ambient temperature 66 degrees. Small make top cooler bottom drawer not closing tightly.” A follow-up inspection was done on June 16 and scored 100 percent “A” grade according to The Retail Food Establishment Report.
- Wicked Tuna located at 4123 U.S. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, had a routine inspection on June 15 and scored 85 percent “B” grade. The following violations were found by inspectors according to the SC Food Grade Report. The Retail Food Establishment Report listed the following: “Pastry cooler has ambient air temperature of 49 degrees, drink gun boot at bar missing drain line. Self closure not installed on employee restroom door in kitchen. Inside of door to sushi bar has rough dirty paint. Hose under pressure at dish machine connected with no dual check back flow preventer.” A follow-up inspection was performed the following day, June 16 and scored 99 percent “A” grade according to The Retail Food Establishment Report.
