Here is some information on foodborne illness that is important to know. If a facility does not meet standards, inspectors will report this on SC food grade report and will require the facility to fix this within a specific time frame, usually ten days.
While the American food supply is among the safest in the world, the Federal government estimates that there are about 48 million cases of foodborne illness annually—the equivalent of sickening 1 in 6 Americans each year. And each year these illnesses result in an estimated 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths, according to the FDA U.S. Food And Drug Administration.
Foodborne Illness: Know the Symptoms
Symptoms of foodborne illness usually appear 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food but may occur between 30 minutes and 4 weeks later. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, symptoms include:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (may be bloody), and abdominal pain
Fever, headache, and body ache
If you suspect that you could have a foodborne illness, contact your physician or healthcare provider right away, according to the FDA.
