Which Horry County restaurants received low inspection scores?
Two Horry County restaurants received the lowest scores during health inspections at the end of April due to employees not washing their hands and the presence of bugs in coolers, according to reports.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control conducts inspections every month and scores establishments based on their practices.
Here are the inspection scores between April 26 through April 30.
Taqueria Dos Hermanos, on Highway 544 in Conway, received a 78% or “C” during a routine inspection on April 28.
Inspectors documented employees not washing their hands after using gloves. They also were observed not washing hands between cleaning out the mop bucket and serving plates to customers.
There were utensils for the grill being stored in sanitizer buckets, according to the DHEC report. It stated some of the food was not marked with dates.
The facility lost points due to cleaning products being stored near sauces and condiment cups, and other toxic materials were being stored in random containers without labels.
Employees were also using condiment cups and bowls to scoop food, according to the report. Tortillas were covered with a trash bag, and food stored in the freezer were put in trash bags.
The Sun News reached out to the restaurant Tuesday morning, but a manager was not immediately available to comment.
Pop Pop’s Pit BBQ, on Highway 707 in Myrtle Beach, received a 77% or “C” during a routine inspection on April 26.
The restaurant had grease build up inside fryers and surfaces throughout the kitchen.
Food, including cooked meat, was not dated properly. Some food items were stored uncovered in coolers, according to DHEC inspectors.
They found evidence of bugs in coolers, and bug spray was placed near an open box of utensils.
The report stated a cutting board and fry cutter were put in the dirty mop sink, which can’t be used for dishes.
Floors and walls were also dirty with grease and debris.
A manager with the establishment declined to comment on Tuesday afternoon.
Follow up inspections take place within 10 days of the routine check up.
