Look at how these Myrtle Beach restaurants scored during recent state inspections

State health inspectors gave two Myrtle Beach area food establishments low scores from March 28 through April 1, due to roach sightings, undated food and poor thawing practices, according to state reports.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control conducts inspections every month and releases grades and reports for food establishments in Horry County.

Here are the grades for restaurants that scored low:

Je Asian Fusion, on S.C. 9 in Longs, scored a 76% or “C“on March 30 during a routine check.

Inspectors found employees not washing their hands when handling raw food, according to the DHEC report. The report also said bottles with chemicals were placed on prep tables and stored near food items. Inspectors also found debris under the grill and shelf. Containers of food were also placed on the floor of a walk-in freezer.

The establishment didn’t receive points for food containers not being dated and for improper cooling and thawing practices, according to the report.

Je Asian is scheduled to have a follow-up appointment 10 days after the date of the inspection.

Tokyo Express on Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach scored a 72% or “C” on March 29 during a routine inspection.

Inspectors observed and documented roaches -- both alive and dead -- in various parts of the restaurant, including one in ready-to-eat sushi rice, the report shows. There was bags of rice stored on the floor near the restrooms, and some of the light bulbs above the cook line were out, according to the DHEC report. It also said restroom doors did not close fully.

Tokyo Express is scheduled to have another appointment 10 days after the date of the inspection.
