I scream, you scream, readers screamed for the best ice cream in Horry County.

The Sun News conducted a nonscientific poll asking our readers to vote for the best ice cream shop in the Myrtle Beach area.

After nearly 4,000 votes, the results are in.

Melt in North Myrtle Beach emerged victorious with 1,894 votes, or 48% of the votescast. The establishment is known for its homemade flavors and was named the best ice cream in South Carolina by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

A North Myrtle Beach neighbor, Ella’s, was a close second. Around 46% of the votes were cast for Ella’s - 1,799 votes. The soft serve shop named for the owners’ late daughter was voted best ice cream in North Myrtle Beach by North Strand News in 2020.

Further down on the list, Painter’s in Murrells Inlet ranked third with nearly 100 votes. The store offers many homemade flavors and sundae options. Closed for the season, Painter’s reopens in April.

The Sun News poll was open for multiple days, and people were permitted to vote as many times as they liked.
