To some, southern food isn’t the epitome of fancy dining. But with Tupelo Honey Cafe growing in number throughout the Southeast, that idea appears to be changing.

The newest arrival to The Market Common, Tupelo Honey Cafe has been a much anticipated addition and is so far living up to the hype. With an outdoor patio that has comfortable seating, plus a fire pit for chilly nights, the exterior of the restaurant also perfectly matches the atmosphere of the quaint shopping area.

Inside, the lighting is dim but warm and colorful, with a bright bar and large paintings adorning the walls. The restaurant is spacious, however, so it easily becomes loud, thanks to high ceilings and nothing to keep sound from bouncing around.

The restaurant only has been open a few weeks but already fits right in and seems to be a popular choice for locals and visitors alike. Even on a recent chilly evening in the middle of the week, there was a bustle of people on the patio, and the inside was almost full. Despite how busy it was, the greeters and waiters were attentive and friendly.

The menu, while not necessarily extensive, provided a wide enough array of options to appeal to many different palates and diets (including gluten free). Each dinner meal also had suggested beers to accompany them, which is useful for those who aren’t sure how to pair food with the alcoholic beverage, as well as for people who simply want to try something new.

Another pleasant surprise came when the dishes were served in less than 15 minutes after ordering. Whatever is going on in the kitchens, they have figured out the right balance between fresh ingredients and quick service.

The lump crab cakes were absolutely scrumptious and went well with the arugula salad and asparagus. The grilled chicken also was perfectly moist and went well with the homemade cranberry mayonnaise.

This southern dining experience also comes with a brunch option for breakfast lovers, including a Mimosa or Bloody Mary to help wake you up. Brunch, however, is only available on the weekends, but if breakfast food is what you’re craving, there are two options to choose from at all hours.

Happy hour is Monday through Friday, from 4-8 p.m., with specials including all pints for half off and $3 craft frozen cocktails. This location also provides reservations, either with a call or by visiting the website.

A delicious array of southern food that is local and fresh makes for a happy stomach. It should come as no wonder that Tupelo Honey Cafe also makes for happy hearts.
