Homemade food can go a long way for a restaurant and is often what helps local businesses stand out. In Pawleys Island, Landolfi’s Italian Bakery and Deli is known for that fresh touch, from their pesto to their bread to the many pastries that fill the dessert case.

Located mere feet away from Ocean Highway, Landolfi’s is like a little escape to Italy, complete with a full bar that feels like a lounge and an enclosed patio. The menu keeps things straightforward with sandwiches, paninis, and pizzas. House made soups are also a popular choice and one that changes regularly, ranging from butternut squash to pork chile verde stew.

Their pizzas are baked in a wood-fired brick oven using the Neopolitan technique, meaning the pies are thin crust and baked quickly in the very hot oven. Guests can create their own 10-inch pizza that starts at $8 or order from the menu’s list of gourmet pizzas for $11. Most are of course Italian, but Landolfi’s offers also barbeque chicken and even a Greek interpretation.

Classics like margherita and Tuscan pizza grace the menu, and Landolfi’s also serves their version of the oldest style of pizza in the United States, called The Trentonian. It comes topped with a mixture of buffalo and mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and oregano. For a somewhat more hearty pie, their delicious Pizza Rustica is smothered with gooey cheese and topped with roasted peppers, Italian sausage, fresh tomatoes, and olives.

Landolfi’s is also willing to customize subs and hoagies, including toasting them for a warm meal or using gluten-free bread. The restaurant is known for their roast beef and corned-beef brisket, both made in house as so much of the menu is. For the occasional guest not in the mood for Italian, there are a few sandwiches like the American, the Southwestern, and the Pawleys Porker as alternatives.

Despite being known as a deli and bakery, Landolfi’s doesn’t shy away from drinks, with a decent list of red and white wine, even their own cocktails such as their popular Summer Sangria. The team has also created Van Gogh cocktails by taking Van Gogh vodka and infusing it with natural ingredients for up to two months with dutch spirits in underground tanks.

Most of all, Landolfi’s is loved for their pastries and one glance into the case will explain why. Cannoli that are filled upon order and biscotti are staples in this Italian bakery, but guests will also regularly see fruit tarts, eclairs, an assortment of cheesecake, and more.

Amazing food, specials that change often, great service, and delectable desserts keep many locals and even tourists coming back with regular occurrence. Landolfi’s has been a beloved part of the community, occasionally holding events and raising money for charitable foundations, and even simply helping neighbors out. Great food with great company seems to be what Landolfi’s embodies.
