TikToker @thenellyeffect, who fosters kittens in memory of her late cat Chanel, recently visited her brother, who owns a pair of slippers custom-made to look just like his tuxedo cat. They weren't sure how he'd react to meeting his fuzzy look-alikes, but what happened next was comedy gold.

The moment he spotted the slippers, he froze and let out the funniest sound we've ever heard. At first, we thought someone off camera was saying, "No, no, no, no!" Then we realized the noise was actually coming from the cat! It was clear he wanted absolutely nothing to do with his mini doppelgängers, and viewers can't stop laughing at his priceless reaction.

My brothers cat is terrified of slippers that look like him Have you ever heard a cat say no? The video was filmed the first time the slippers were worn. We thought he'd smack them but was way more scared than we thought! They were donated immediately after this video, no more scared kitty! #scaredycat

The poor guy was so scared!

In the caption, @thenellyeffect shared a brief update on what happened after the clip ended. "My brothers cat is terrified of slippers that look like him. Have you ever heard a cat say no? The video was filmed the first time the slippers were worn. We thought he'd smack them, but he was way more scared than we thought! They were donated immediately after this video; no more scared kitty!"

We laughed when commenter @JayRena admitted, "You know what, I'd probably be freaked out if somebody had slippers of my likeness on." We couldn't agree more!

Why Do Cats Sometimes React to Objects Like They're Alive?

Cats rely heavily on sight, movement, and scent to figure out what's safe in their environment. So when they come across an unfamiliar object, especially one that resembles another animal, they may exhibit signs of aggression by freezing, vocalizing, puffing up, or getting closer to investigate until they decide whether it's a threat.

PetMD explains that bringing a new pet into the home is a common source of anxiety and fear for cats. In this case, it's possible the tuxedo cat mistook the slippers for another cat suddenly invading his territory.

Once they realize the object isn't moving or behaving like a real animal, curiosity usually replaces concern...though some cats never fully trust the imposter.

After hearing this tuxedo cat's hilarious protest, we're glad his human decided to ditch them since he clearly wasn't a fan.
