Sometimes opposites really do attract. While the tortoise and the hare might be a classic example, this tortoise and dog make for a perfect pair. We catch a glimpse of their friendship in this adorable video depicting their morning routine.

In the clip, Skippy, the dog, comes rushing over to wake up Tilly G, the tortoise. Tilly has an incredibly stylish house, and Skippy eagerly wags at the door as the big reptile emerges. The antics that follow are pure magic. At one point, Skippy picks up a stick and Tilly a flower, proving that they're totally in sync. You won't be able to stop watching.

TikTok audiences love these two. The top comment went to @Micki with, "They are so beautiful together! How could anyone not smile and love them?!!!" Another, @Sunflower mom, called them "BFFs." Clearly, that's true.

Why Dogs and Tortoises Can Form Strong, Interspecies Bonds

You shouldn't be too surprised if you frequent animal TikTok, but beasties can really develop interspecies friendships. These have even been observed in the wild.

Dogs, in particular, have an uncanny ability to extend their affection beyond the canine realm. They were bred, after all, to hang out all day with us. The instincts that lead them to want to form bonds with humans can also cause them to give a friendly sniff to a tortoise.

The American Kennel Club dives into this topic a bit more: "One thing that is clear is that dogs can and will bond with other animals if they're raised with them. Raise a puppy with a goat, and they'll bond with goats, for example." Goats, reptiles, donkeys, and dogs will hang with just about anyone.

As for the tortoise, his large size and outgoing personality help with the foundation of this friendship. Unlike a smaller pet, Tilly doesn't need to worry so much about his canine bestie. Also, both of these animals like to dig, so perhaps they were meant to be best friends all along.
