The Murrells Inlet staple is opening a new store on the Surfside Pier. Perry's Bait & Tackle

A popular Murrells Inlet bait and tackle store has a new location in Surfside Beach.

Perry’s Bait & Tackle will open a new store on the Surfside Pier at 11 Ocean Blvd South. The store will begin operations once the pier is open to the public and has a lease for five years. The announcement was made via Facebook June 8.

“Our intention is to have a true bait and tackle shop,” owner Craig Doehner said. A family-run business since 1954, the store will be operated by Doehner and his three grandchildren.

But fishing enthusiasts of Murrells Inlet should not worry about Perry’s cutting bait on them. The Murrells Inlet store will still be in operation at 3965 US Hwy 17 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. per usual summer hours. As for the hours of the new store, demand will dictate that Doehner said.

“We plan to be open when the fishermen want us to be open”, Doehner added.
