A new mini golf course is opening in Myrtle Beach SC. Here’s what you’ll find
A dragon stares down at you as you try to make your putt.
But don’t worry, you won’t be burned if you miss the shot at Myrtle Beach’s newest mini golf course.
The Red Dragon Cove Adventure Golf course at 2001 S. Kings Highway is scheduled to open in July with a possible start date of July 4.
The miniature golf course is pirate-themed and inspired by Asian culture.
Specifically, Red Dragon Cove loosely draws inspiration from the famed pirate Zheng Yi Sao who ruled the seas off the coast of China in the early 19th century, as a pirate queen. A large junk ship sits at the front of the course as a nod to the famed buccaneer.
The project is led by brother and sister duo Christine and Jason Rapanos and business partner Brandon Kaufman. Christine Rapanos said the idea for the course came in 2021.
The Rapanoses operate a family entertainment center in Midland, Michigan, that has mini-golf. The Rapanos family chose the Grand Strand for their new business because they wanted to give back to the area.
“My family has been coming (to Myrtle Beach) for years,” Christine Rapanos said. “Myrtle Beach is near and dear to our hearts.”
On the course, players will enter the Temple clubhouse guarded by cannons on the roof and a door guarded by two elephant statues. Golfers also will work their way through one of two 18-hole courses, two within the large mountain at the center of the course.
Mini-golfers will also pass by various installations throughout the course, including a Chinese Dragon and an Indonesian sculpture of Buddha that will help golfers remember to maintain Zen despite all their errant putts.
More features are planned for the new mini-golf location. Christine Rapanos added that a bamboo forest will be installed and more promotions are currently in the works. The course already has an ice cream machine in the clubhouse for visitors.
Red Dragon Cove will also hire 10 workers for the site, Christine Rapanos added.
