Monthly ’1st Thursday’ series returns for fall at Waccamaw Library

The Friends of the Waccamaw Library “1st Thursday” adult education series returns after a summer break, with adults welcome at all programs, always at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday monthly at Georgetown County Library’s Waccamaw Neck branch, 41 St. Paul Place, Litchfield Beach, off Willbrook Boulevard, with this schedule through year’s end:

— Sept. 7 – Charlotte Hope, sea turtle biologist, showcasing the S.C. Department of Natural Resources’ Marine Turtle Conservation Program.

— Oct. 5 – Lee Brockington, with first part of “Georgetown County’s Education Legacy of the 18th and 19th Century.” (Second part, about the 20th century, will be 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at Georgetown County Library main branch, 405 Cleland St., Georgetown. More details: email rwilley1019@gmail.com.)

— Nov. 2 –Jim Spirek, state underwater archaeologist, with “The Maritime Archaeological Legacy of the Pee Dee Region: Shipwrecks, Logging and other Sites.”

— Dec. 7 – Walter Hill, director of Horry County Museum and L.W. Paul Living History Farm, with “Christmas on the Farm.”
