Working to make a bigger splash than just regional shows, and tentative first steps into country radio, Jebb “Mac” McMillan has spent considerable time, energy and money (with the help of a few savvy investors) to record two albums and produce a high-quality music video of the band’s new country party tune “Sip of That.”
The band will host two CD Release parties in support of a new six-song EP
recorded in Nashville under Grammy-nominated producer Kent Wells. See
the band and purchase CDs and merchandise at Apple Annies Pub in
Florence (10 p.m. Aug 18), and at the Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet (8
p.m. August 19).
The Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, the Dead Dog Saloon and The Claw House
were the setting for the “Sip of That” video, which has already garnered
150,000 views. It’s the kind of exposure that McMillan hopes will lead to
“We only released the video a couple of months ago,” said McMillan, “but
eventually we hope to see a little mailbox money from ASCAP because of
all the plays.” McMillan has written or co-written most of the songs, some of which perfectly fit the summertime formula exploited by Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Florida-Georgia Line, Kid Rock and others who tap into the beach life, inner tubes, and pick-up trucks.
Self-described as “country-funk” the band incorporates a horn section,
setting it apart from other bands. McMillan plays acoustic guitar and handles lead vocals. Joining him are: Tyler Roberts (vocals, electric guitar), Don Colton (vocals, saxophone), Emery Henderson (vocals, trombone), Emma J. Hamilton (vocals, keys/bass), and Nelson James (drums).
