Christmas in July, Save the Vaquita Day planned for weekend of July 8-9
“Save the Vaquita Day” – highlighting a tiny, endangered porpoise for which an estimated 30 survive worldwide – 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 8 at N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher, on U.S. 421, just south of Kure Beach – also with “Souls of the Vermillion Sea: Searching for Vaquita” movie at 2 and 4 p.m., and question-and-answer session with marine mammal professor, 11:30 a.m. All free with admission: $10.95 ages 13-61, $9.95 seniors and military, $8.95 ages 3-12, and free ages 2 and younger. 910-772-0500 or N.C. Second annual “Christmas in July” benefit for Canine Angels – which rescues, trains and places dogs as service companions with veterans who have disabilities – 2-6 p.m. Sunday, July 9 at Drifters Saloon, 2905 N.
