Things To Do

Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach SC is getting a makeover

Celebrity Square at Broadway at the Beach is getting a new look. Conceptual plans proposed to the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board call for

the area to have

a design influenced by historic warehouse districts in Charleston, Wilmington and Savannah.

The most noticeable change to the area will be the demolition of the 70-foot-tall pyramid that houses Hard Rock Cafe. After the restaurant moves to its new location (the former Broadway Louie’s), the building will be demolished and a Dave & Buster’s will be built on the lot.

Plans call for a 40,000-square-foot, two-story brick-

and-mortar restaurant with an arched entrance and metal doors much like a warehouse. A changeable electronic variable message sign is planned to adorn the front of the restaurant, which will open up into the new square’s “warehouse district.”

“We’ve done a case study in Wilmington, Charleston and Savannah. (We) visited Orlando and all over to kind of get inspiration for these,”said Brian Wurst of Charleston’s LS3P Associates.

The current archway proclaiming “Celebrity Square, Where the stars go at night,” is also coming down.
